A car ride through WW I
Discover the Westhoek via one of the six new car routes based on different First World War themes. Each route is about 70 kilometres long and between them they take in all the most important sites of historical interest.
In Flanders Fields Museum
Using new angles of approach and based on the personal stories of those involved, the In Flanders Fields Museum in Ieper offers you an excellent introduction to the story of World War One. From the belfry tower you can view the surrounding landscape, the last witness of the war. The museum is the ideal place to start any visit to our region.
Biking the borderlands
Signposted routes and cycle networks with dozens of junction points provide more than 1,500 kilometres of pedalling pleasure on both sides of the Franco-Belgian border. Each field and village has its story to tell or its relics to show.
The Last Post
Every evening at precisely 8 o'clock the Last Post is played under the Menin Gate. The fire brigade started this ceremony in 1928, a tradition still maintained today, both summer and winter, in good weather or bad, 365 days a year... For other events in the Westhoek, click here.
